This was a good listen. It started off pretty funny but got serious pretty quickly. I would say it's light on the rom com and heavy on the contemporary romance. Harper wasn't the easiest character to like, but I understood her struggles. I just wish she would have done what she needed to do earlier. I adored Dan. He tried to bring Harper out of her shell and did his best to understand her. I liked how Dan worked through his own issues as well. The anxiety rep was done well. Overall, a good romantic read. The fact that it all took place during dental school was something I didn't know I needed.

for some reason, this took me kind of a long time to finish. i think the dentistry aspect of it and all of the technological terms put me off a little bit.
that being said, i really loved the way anxiety is portrayed throughout the book. the struggles harper goes through and the way it’s described is incredibly realistic and i also enjoyed that the love interest didn’t just magically solve everything for her.

A BRUSH WITH LOVE

I wanted an easy, romance read and that's exactly what I got.

Harper and Dan are dental students, 26 years olds. Harper is addictively academic; constantly studying and focussing on her grades. When Dan enters her life, he's immediately hooked and wants to spend more time with her.

Harper's obsession with studying leaves her seeming slightly cold and dismissive. She insists she does not have time nor mental space to engage in any romantic relationship with Dan.

The book explores their friendship, and both their longing to be with each other. I found Harper frustrating. I wanted to shake her and make her realise she could have balance.

One thing that was slightly conflicting was the characters were supposed to be 26 years old, but this felt much more like a teenage/YA romance. It possibly would have been more believable had they been at high school. For example, the text messages between Harper and Dan, and between Harper and her friends.

Having said that, it made it a light, easy read and I was rooting for them. (no pun intended...rooting, roots, dental... you get me)

What I did like was the focus on dentistry; something I have never really read about before!

There was a big smut section too, FYI!

Thank you to @netgalley, the publishers and author for providing me with a gifted copy of this Audiobook in exchange for a honest review.
Summary:
Harper is anxiously awaiting placement into a top oral surgery residency program when she literally crashes into Dan. Harper is determined not to be distracted. Dan is a struggling first year dental student with a family legacy. With the greatest of intentions and the poorest of follow- throughs, the two set out to be "just friends." But as they get to know each other better, Harper fears that trading fillings for feelings may make her lose control and can't risk her carefully ordered life coming undone, no matter how drool-worthy Dan is.

My review:
I felt so seen while reading this book. The stress of staying a float, being the "perfect" child, not wanting to be a burden to my friends or romantic partner when it comes to my mental health/anxiety, and finding a balance in life. I related so much to Harper.
I would also like to announce I have a new book boyfriend. His name is Dan, and he is adorably loyal, caring, patient, and has a mouth on him! *insert swoon here*
Read if you like:
+ dual POV
+ giant sized cats named Judy
+ comedy mixed in with some steamy romance
+ dental humor/puns
+ mental health rep
TW/CW (spoilers): death of a loved one, anxiety, panic attacks, grief, sexism, ableism language.
