Oh gawd... yet another where I really loved the premise of this... but the execution? Not so much.

Freya... where do I even begin? She was really irritating. And her relationship with her brother? Came across as a little odd... there was definitely an incestuous feel to it. Yeah, I know that wasn't the case... but it wasn't a healthy sibling relationship. Why was she so hated by the other nurses at the hospital where she was working? Made no sense whatsoever. Then the sudden change in her character... suddenly she moves, is a sharp-shooter, has way more confidence that she did before... did Ridley have a magical penis that imbibed her with self-believe? Sighs. Oh, yeah... and what was her name? And why did she suddenly start calling him 'Lee'? That is a very specific shortening... 'Rid' would be more appropriate... and it was obvious that that was what his Dead Wife called him. Sorry can't remember her name... Errie? or summat. And the black butterfly. What. The. Actual. Fuck. was that about? Nowhere before had we read that Cory liked them... I think if she had seen an ant the reaction would've been the same. #justsayin'

Ridley... really didn't like him, didn't like him in 'Bad Apple' either. He is a nothing character. But, the reason I didn't like him? His attitude to Freya. He fucks her, then leaves and basically ignores her bar one text for weeks. Then he gets pissed off when he can't find her immediately. What? Is she supposed to just wait for him like a good little girl? And he is hung up on on his murdered wife? Yes, that is absolutely fair enough... but then... there seemed to be little snipes slipping in there... she didn't want sex as much, she didn't like tattoos... though, the fact that he didn't have any at that point didn't seem to figure into it. It felt that the sudden shift in his feelings towards his dead wife were done so that we, the reader, would accept him falling for Freya... or whatever her actual name was... well, that didn't work.

What happened with Craddock? How was he able to get her loans? Did she still have the two houses or not? Yet again, a character introduced for zero purpose.

Then... once more... this time with feeling... we have the non-resolution. Just the nothingness of the story riles me something terrible.

( and I am pretty sure that I have said it in another review somewhere within one of LLV's series... I will not be reading Wolf's tale... cos the whole set up through out had been him and Hannah. Suddenly, we get Raven. Does not gel for me. Not one iota. )

The only thing I’d say is that the events are out of order and it made things a bit confusing.
