I absolutely loved Lilah and Jake !
I recommend for those who like a lovely historical romance with endearing characters.

Usually, if I'm re-reading a book and still swooning over some of my favorite parts, it's definitely a 5 ⭐️ read for me!

This book could've easily created an Alpha hero with a chip on his shoulder miles wide for being a bastard son of an Earl. He could've been surly and insufferable, overbearing and demanding.

Instead he was perceptive, teasing, and not prone to anger or cruelty. He was so so sweet and protective. He seemed to really *see* the heroine and cherish her because of it. I was cheering him on even as he was arrogant and brooding because I was so happy that my initial assumptions based on the set up and past experience were Wrong!

I've said this before: Heroes make the book for me, heroines usually break it. I assume that I'll love the heroine or find a piece of me in her looks or demeanor, so when a heroine falls flat or is TSTL, then I'm done with the book. But an average heroine (😬 like Lilah here) with an amazing hero will have me over the moon.

I like scenes with the couple where you can see or feel them connect at an intimate and vulnerable level. There's a scene in the book where they realize their fears and insecurities are due to some childhood experiences that scarred them a bit. I loved them opening up to each other.

I usually am all 🙄 at romances with little sexy times at nearly the end of the book because I'm reading for the romance and sensuality as well as the love ❤️! But while this book is on the light side, I didn't feel disappointed because it felt natural to the story and had a great buildup 👍🏽. Just a heads up on the light lovin'

For lovers of tender Beta heroes masquerading as Alphas! This one is for you

I decided to read the author's Backlist and I was not disappointed. This is a classic HR with a heroine in search of a husband... And as always ... The best type of husband is the wrong one!

An ugly duckling retelling with a self made hero brings a lot of feelings to the table!

3.5-4 stars!

I was in a serious need for an Historical romance and this book has been on my shelf for a looong time! I'm so happy I picked this book up because these characters and the plot was so much fun! I really enjoyed the banter and the love between the characters. Jack and Lilah were beyond cute and I was seriously rooting for them.

I love that it wasn't just cookie-cutter happy but it also had some low angst, but not between the MCs but between them and their families. Seeing Jack's struggle with his father and the animosity that has surrounded Lilah for much of her life when she's with her family, was pretty saddening. I felt bad for them but I knew that they would have each other and that Jack could fix his relations with his family.

This book was well written and I am happy I picked it up but I felt that the ending was soo sooo rushed! I was really disheartened that I thought, "this is it..?" I wanted more and I felt short-changed that we didn't get it! But, I so did loved everything else!
