What really sold me on this book was the art. The story is solid, but it's nothing out of the ordinary, for the most part. I thought the battle with the mean girl was handled well, and I really liked that while Juniper is strong and confident, she's also vulnerable and messy.

My favorite thing about the book, though, was probably Cassie, and mainly because of her art. When Juniper groans that she insulted Bambi, I thought it was the *perfect* way of describing Cassie. She's so doe-eyed and vulnerable and innocent, and her face is ridiculously expressive. I think Hicks could have told an entire story just through shots of Cassie's face.

I decided to read this one, it looked really good and featured my favourite trope: Boarding school! Meet Jun or Juniper, a studious girl who has won a scholarship. I loved Juniper immediately, she was such an interesting character and I loved that she didn't let people walk over her because of that. She stood her ground. Go girl!
We see that the schoollife is way different from normal but Juniper embraces the hard work. I loved that she became friends with Cassie quite fast, they make quite a good pair of friends. They both care about each other and with Juniper's help and cheering Cassie becomes better.
I liked seeing various classes, see the girls bond, and also get some information on both girls and their families.
But really, could we ditch the mean/rich girl trope? Because I am really SICK and TIRED of that trope in my favourite trope: Boarding School. Really, I am normally not a violent person, but that girl deserved that punch (and more). Really, you see that someone is unhappy, uncomfortable and you threaten to throw her stuff out of the window? Don't go crying when you get punched. :| Bitch.
The ending just felt a bit weird, open, and a bit too magical. I would have rather seen a real solution than this weak-ass solution.
The art is quite good!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!
I think the opening is so strong that the ending feels so lackluster in comparison. Too rushed and short at the same time. I would be okay with this book getting a sequel because I like the world and its character, but I would hope that the pacing would be greatly improved.
