I really enjoyed this MG graphic novel. It's essentially a contemporary boarding school setting, though there's a small touch of the fantastical in it near the end as well. For me, reading this as an adult, the resolution played out exactly the way I expected it to go, but it was still fun even though I wasn't surprised by the turn of events. Younger readers might have a different experience. I've always enjoyed Faith Erin Hicks's artwork, so this was a pleasure to look at visually in addition to enjoying the story part of the graphic novel.

I thought this was a fun, quick read, even if the explanation for why the mean girl is so mean felt incredibly lacking. She's mean because she is, that's it. But I am a fan of Hick's art style and I LOVED the twist about what lived in the woods.

This book drew me in with its humour from the first pages and then delivered so much more. It felt like an adventure that I was excited to discover more of, and it was told well.

The development of the characters felt realistic. A step away from sunny idealism often seen in fiction but the ending was still fulfilling and left me satisfied. Although there is still so much more I'd love to know about this universe and the stories in it. Cassie seems like she has a really interesting story to tell.

The story was also a really enjoyable portrayal of school life! From the uniforms to classes to the social dynamics amongst teenagers.

A super fun story I wish I could have more of!

I really liked Hicks’ art style and Cassie as a character, but this novel was otherwise mediocre. It was a typical story of a girl starting at a boarding school and getting bullied by a two-dimensional character. I wish it had done more.

I dont do research before reading a book...at all...(i never read the description on the back) and so it can happen I accidentally read books for middle schoolers. It was cute, tho not for me. Loved the comeback of the tape recorder.
