It was interesting to see the recipes put into the context of the books as I worked my way through this one. And I did read it all, except the recipes that I would never ever make! Mainly because of some meats that I don't eat beef and veal in particular. And it was particularly interesting to read Pianaro's insights into Italian cooking, and the Venetian table in particular. One of the things that always amazes me as I read Donna Leon's books is the long leisurely lunches that Brunetti is able to have, either at home with all his family or with Vianello. And with wine! And sometimes a liqueur or grappa. It's a different world. There are several recipes I want to copy before I take this back to the library, and though so many look delicious, they also don't all take that long to cook or require expertise beyond my own.
