This was thought-provoking and sad. I learned some history and about things I hope to look out for in everyday life.
The tone of the writing flowed between academic and casual. I had an easier time absorbing the casual parts, but I also enjoyed what I learned in the academic parts that I had a harder time with.

A well written and powerful book.
Dabiri provides a very informational history into the art that is black hair. I very much enjoyed the history, science, and even the math that accompanied this and I learned a lot!
When I first picked this book up, I was not thinking about all the complex history and stigma of the black hair culture that we still deal with today. There were parts of history that i had even forgotten!
For me, it was an emotional read. For one, because I could relate to somethings that the author went through which was learning how to come to terms with your own hair. To hear Dabiri's hair care journey along with the politics of black hair was insight that I found myself loving.
