Expected more after Golden Dynasty series but oh boy..

First off, the book begins with gruesome scenes. Includes r*pe. And guess what? Includes many more gruesome scenes.

I had a huge problem with this book. Initially I was excited to read this series as I was in love with Golden Dynasty , Fantastical, Wildest Dream & Broken Dove

But

This had around five different point of views and maybe the author wanted to add depth and tell the story from every character's side, yet for me, it a was totally opposite experience as a reader.

I felt that it actually made the story feel bland and plain. Instead of telling the plot from 5 different POVs which did not make me feel connected to the characters, individually, in any sort of way, the author could've gone ahead with only two main characters in book one.

Maybe Mars and Silence in this one, with the other couples shown as side characters.

And then those couples could've been given their own books in the later series that follow this.
Loved the plot, but again, it was a messy read for me.
Not planning on reading the rest of the books that follow this.

But I'll keep my ears open for new books from the author because Kristen Ashley's plots are always out of the box and her romance, mostly, is splendid.

Interesting start! A lot of switching of perspectives which felt more GOT than KA but all good!

I cannot say enough about this series! It has quickly become one of my all time favorites! Stunningly and masterfully written, I have never read a story written in this form, and suddenly wish more authors did this! I feel deeply connected to many of the characters, and am sad to finish the series. I only hope the author continues to write in this sub-genre and style.

What a ginormous mess.

I can’t believe I actually paid money for this.

Very difficult to keep track of the characters.
Also difficult to become emersed in the world and language with trying to concentrate on who's who and what's going on.
KA is my all time fave. Especially the fantasyland series. Rather disappointed in this.
Will continue to finish the series and hope for it to get better.

Would prefer a ebook to the audio book so may just wait for them to be released

There is A LOT going on in this book 1 of 4, but even playing a word game on my phone while listening I was able to follow. I enjoyed the format of following all the characters at once plus the world building and descriptions which were the perfect balance to the character introductions that happen in this first book.

Overall, I’m a fan of KA fantasy romances which always include a very classic/typical alpha man (which as a feminist you sometimes have to take with a grain of salt). Then your more subtly powerful FMCs who come into their own more slowly.

I felt each character was distinct too and considering there is a ton, that was impressive. It was fun having so many different personalities and favorite tropes meshed together in one book.

Nothing was too novel or unique, but just solid writing and storytelling I’ve come to expect from KA and an enjoyable read.

This one was hard to rate. It started off really slow for me as we had to be introduced to a number of. characters that all have something to do with the plot. It picked up near the half way mark once the couples were all introduced and started interacting together.

I think the sheer number of characters hurts this one, as I found it extremely hard to keep track of who was who, who was partnered with who and everyone's intentions. This did start as an audible series and I think it would have been better as an audio as the differing characters would have had different voices.

Once I got minimal handle on who was who it did pickup. I did wish we could focus on one couple more as it has thinned the story out

I was annoyed with Mars at the end. I hope he can redeem himself for the pain he caused his intended.
