This is definitely male wish-fulfillment fantasy. A deep-buried personality wakes up in some woman and the first thing she wants to do is fuck Takeshi Kovacs. The woman this entity is in, sure, she wants up on that too. What about the former Envoy trainer and mentor whom he never had sexual feelings for-- oh wait, yes he did, and she's into it too. Fucking Takeshi Kovacs is the first step in crisis therapy for these women for some reason. This is a romance novel for men: sex scenes interspersed with a lot of badass, gritty killin' and maimin'.
The writing itself is solid, the same great hard-boiled noir transplanted into cyberpunk setting. I just had a harder time getting through this than the first two, and honestly the first is still my favorite with the other two in descending order. Some of the seemingly weird decisions they made to combine characters and events in the show and especially second season make a little more sense now.
