This is told from many different characters view points. I enjoyed the story but I didn’t really like any of the characters so can’t give it more than 3 stars.
Like others have said, this one was a slow burn - but it kept me thinking about it well after I finished reading the book.

emotional
mysterious

Not equally good as The Girl on the Train but worth reading.
Not bad, but the multi characters got confusing at times. The story tried to be mysterious but quickly became obvious. Kept me interested but didn’t wow me.
mostly predictable, except the veery end, but a fun ride!
the ending was maddening, despite the sense it made. and the story suffered from far too many narrators. 3 is my max, and there were 7 or so... i would rather have had mystery than too much explaining via extra narrators.

Loved it. More than The Girl on the Train. The Gothic atmosphere was skillfully created, though I didn't find any part scary, just ominous and dark. I listened to the audiobook and the multi-reader performance was terrific except the Erin Morgan chapters read by a Imogen Church. I hated the way she inserted those theatrical gasps in her narration to supposedly create a "natural" effect. Took away some of the pleasure of this book.
Anyway, I believe the author has made a remarkable progress in her second book. I hope she keeps getting better. Can't wait to read her next novel.

I wanted to stop this book so many times. I kept pushing through, hoping something would click, but I never ended up liking it and it kept dragging on. There were so many characters and by the end of the book I barely had a grasp on all of them. It was so hard to follow. I’m giving it a two because I haven’t written a book and I’m sure it’s quite an undertaking. However, I didn’t think that the twist was very twisty and the whole reason for Katie’s death is so unbelievable; especially considering she was such a happy girl. Honestly, the relationships between all of the characters were so strange and loose foundations at best.
