This book did keep me guessing as to what really happened, but the ending kind of fell flat for me. There were a LOT of characters to keep up with, especially because the POV kept changing. Also, almost none of the characters were likable. The sisters in this had a strained relationship. I misunderstood the reason behind the strain, and when it was truly explained/fleshed out, I was actually shocked. To keep it spoiler-free, the younger sister had thought something about her older sister that ended up not being true... but I was just frustrated because how did she go so many years without ever trying to talk to her about it? Overall, an interesting story, just full of icky people and plots.

Leaves too many unanswered questions, and while the book is mostly plot, the plot occurs mostly via characters’ introspection & solo moments. It was intriguing and I wanted to finish it but it was ultimately kinda anti-climactic

Mehhhhhhhhhhhh 🤷🏻‍♀️ I mean, I thought it was much better than The Girl on the Train. Mainly because I didn’t figure it out halfway through...however, the “twist” is still given away with about 80 pages left. So, you’re left reading almost 100 pages thinking JUST GET TO IT ALREADY!

I really wanted to like this one, but unfortunately it wasn't happening. Too many characters to wrap your head around, all while trying to figure out why they're important and what's going on.

The ending is pretty obvious throughout the book, but the last page - the literal last page - is the real surprise. It still wasn't that great or exciting though.

Slow to start, with many different characters, but I thoroughly enjoyed it once I got into it.

Hawkins writes good prose, but the ending was pretty weak

Liked this book so much better than Girl on the Train. Easier to follow the different POVs and timeline. Great writing, crazy characters, and good climax. A little predictable, but I really liked it overall.

A thrilling read! There are many characters in this little town with its winding dark river that seems to be the source of all bad luck and evil.
