Genre: Murder Mystery. Psychological Thriller.

There were a ton of things running through my mind as I was reading this one and at first I honestly didn't think I would like it. In fact, I almost had a DNF with this one. For one, I found the dual point of views (and there were many) to be very confusing and I didn't catch up with them until I was 40% in. Even then I had to sit back and think about who was "talking" when I saw the names which was hard because these chapters are not long and every one was from a different point of view. However, once I got to thinking about the plot and after I it the 55% mark I found that things really turned around. First, the plot got super exciting. When everything was coming into place in terms of the "who" "what" "why" and so on, I became riveted to the pages. The person who I thought was responsible for everything turned out NOT to be the bad guy, and the one person who I never expected WAS. The characters, while a bit dark and broody (much like those in the authors debut, [b:The Girl on the Train|22557272|The Girl on the Train|Paula Hawkins|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1490903702s/22557272.jpg|41107568]) had been placed perfectly in the book which for me, added to the entire atmosphere of the story. And the ending? Well, it was fantastic! The bad guy got what was coming for him and all of the characters had an ending which was tied up in a neat little bow for us. I felt very satisfied with how the author brought everything together.

For obvious reasons I cannot go into the plot because mystery books like this one should be read for themselves. But I did find it to be an overall good read albeit with some minor flaws that a reader like me had a hard time with. This isn't to say that everyone will feel like this, but for me, too many POV's can really boggle down the story which is what affected me the most. I also want to mention that the cover saved this book from a 3 star rating because it's absolutely gorgeous and deserves a lot of cover love. I mean WOW LOOK AT IT? I adore it to pieces!!!

What that, this book would be perfect for readers who like clever murder mysteries and for those who like and ending that you won't see coming. I know this is a must have for many fans of the genre so this may be a perfect boo for you. I also think this book would pair well with fans of the authors debut novel, The Girl on the Train, and for anyone who enjoys a psychological thriller.

I liked this book a lot. Everyone I know that has read both Paula Hawkins books liked the girl on the train better. I don't know how I feel. I think that the storyline may have been better, however I like that there were more redeeming qualities in the characters in this book. I was very happy with the way the novel wrapped up and all of the reveals in the last quarter of the book. I still do have one question. I might have to Google to figure out if I missed something about what happened to one of the characters. I think I have to sit on my rating and see if I still feel like it is a 4-star read after about a week. Sometimes after I finish a book, my true feelings come out depending on how much I end up thinking about the book after I'm done with it.

It was honestly a tad confusing at times with all of the characters perspectives telling parts of the story. I liked the overall plot and sequence of events it had some good twists. It was written well but on top of all the characters being really hard to even like, it just got really jumbled switching between them.

This book had good premise, but I got so lost while listening to this and never really fully understood who was who, and how they were all involved. There were too many characters with a backstory that you had to remember, a few of which I thought were completely irrelevant and didn’t add anything to the story whatsoever. The ending was predictable, there weren’t many ‘twists’ that were exciting and some of the characters were just utterly unhinged and weird.

Probably not a book I’d recommend, but I do have A Slow Fire Burning on my Borrowbox list by Paula Hawkins, so I’ll give her another go.

I’m struggling with my feelings after finishing this one. I absolutely loved TGotT more. There were things I really enjoyed about Into the Water (I was always on edge, my feelings and thoughts on characters changing constantly, some good twists throughout) and things that are leaving me confused and… let down? (SO many unanswered questions, way too many characters to keep track of, no really massive twists that left me shocked, as I’ve felt with other recent reads). I’m giving this 3 stars, because I did enjoy it and was interested to find out how it ended, but part of me is fighting the urge to lower it to 2 due to the mixed feelings it leaves me with.

I thought this would be a gripping holiday beach read, but instead I found myself working fulltime to keep track of all these characters. Ultimately unsatisfying.
You're telling me the creepy old guy who everyone says is evil and also drowned a pregnant cat is the killer?! No way!
