I really wanted to like this, the concept has so much potential. But I just couldn’t get into it. Very bland characters, no substance, plots points that went nowhere.

Such a cute book! Adorable baby dragons plus a cute and cozy romance? Yes, please! I felt like I was transplanted to Stars Hollow if magical creatures lived there.

Maybe my expectations were way too high, or maybe cozy books just aren't for me, but I didn't enjoy the Dragon Café even half as much as I thought I would.

Part of it was the writing style, or rather the endless repetitions, expositions and needless explanations. I feel like you could've cut the word count by at least half and wouldn't have lost much actual content.

Speaking of which... nothing really happens. At all. It's aiming to be a feel-good type of book without drama or high stakes, but it unfortunately, for me, missed its mark and went straight to boring. And if there's no plot, I expect at least my romance to be interesting, but the romance can be described like the cheap lukewarm instant coffee: ridiculously fast and unsatisfying. I didn't see love, I saw lust at best. It's always desire this, desire that, and none of that deeper connection they are imagining.

The worldbuilding is also just a mess. You really could exchange the dragons for dogs and barely anything would change. Somehow only the elite have dragons, but on the other hand every other person seems to have one. The "rituals" are straight-up nonsense at best and glorified animal abuse at worst and I still have no idea what they were even for. Dragon racing is teased so many times but the Chekov's gun remains decorative. Etc., the list goes on.

Just... ugh. The potential is there, but it too remains nailed to the wall, doomed to look pretty and enticing but do nothing.
