Our MC travels back to Palestine to visit her home and takes part in a play. Whilst there she struggles with various aspects of the occupation.
This book was a worthwhile read, the only downfall was that the pace was quite slow.
I enjoyed the family dynamics, the MCs struggle with western vs eastern ideals and the various aspects of the play.

I lost interest, the almost constant back and forth flashbacks was hard to keep track of.
Great concept but I kept dreading trying to finish it.
I’ll keep reading middle eastern authors especially Palestinian ones but probably not this author again.

What a fantastic book! None of the characters felt like stereotypes — they felt like real people — and they had interesting insights into their own problems and others'. I also loved the presentation of the words: not just text as prose, but also as screenplays.
It's been a couple weeks since I finished it, so a lot of the details are now fading, but there really wasn't anything I was frustrated or bored by. This was just an excellent, well-written book that made me extremely jealous of the author who's my age.
On a personal note, I really liked the exposure to theater and acting, a subject that I often actively avoid due to my own distaste.
