There are times where I felt lost but overall a very strong book. There’s obviously lots of media surrounding time travel, but rarely one that takes a deep dive into what significance time travel may hold culturally.

This book is so fascinating. It’s mostly brutal with a dash of hope. Some parts are extremely well-done, and others (like the “romance” which is more like obsession) feel like they could’ve used some more work. As a sci-fi fan, I would’ve liked more of that plot.

I love what the author did by
never naming the main character, making you fully inhabit her mind, even as you grow to hate her for being kind of a sociopath and making such ridiculous choices. Her inability to question almost anything had me tearing my hair out. But still, I enjoyed the read.
And I loved Arthur and Maggie.

I wouldn’t say I’d whole heartedly recommend it, but I’ll definitely be thinking about this book for a while.

I generally enjoyed the story as a whole; however, the last 20% of the story, truly the plot-dense portion of the novel, was incredibly rushed. The verbiage was somewhat pedantic (even considering that characters were from different centuries with different language). The novel would’ve been better had it not tried to touch on so many genres.

I wanted to like this book SO bad! Graham Gore is a commander for the British Navy who after getting lost in an Arctic expedition gets taken to present day Britain by The Ministry of Time. The main character (who apparently doesn't have a name??? wtf) works as the bridge between Gore and modern day culture and concepts. The issue with this book is %100 the writing and characters. The concept of this book is incredible and if it achieved what it promised this would probably be my favorite book of the year. Unfortunately, this was not only unromantic, unfunny, and boring but it was also so confusing. Gore shows more interest in his best friend Arthur than he does the FMC. They have less than zero chemistry together and it baffles me that she spends like most of the book basically writing in her diary about how handsome he is and how she loves him. He basically only ever talks to her like a roommate even when they hookup. Gore was the most well developed and yet he still fell so flat as a character. The FMC was a one dimensional follower and never decided anything on her own. I was rooting for the bad guys at the end. I fucking hate that I didn't like this book but its just so poorly written it was basically mental torture to read.

I really enjoyed this book. The pacing is mostly quite well done. The characters are wonderful and there’s a lot of diversity in the cast. My only gripe is that the absolute ending of the main driving plot feels a bit rushed thus slightly anticlimactic. I even really like the denouement. Overall, this book is highly recommended

I am not sure why I just didn’t DNF it. The main characters were all annoying and obtuse. The author is very wordy. The whole thing made no sense in the end and sci fi is fine but she didn’t have rules around it just we don’t understand how it works so trust the narrator which is frustrating
