Gets a little muddy by the end, but amazing world building and fun trip. Don’t expect something like this from Cutter.

I hated this. I tried to listen to the audiobook twice, and the second time I almost DNF'ed it but pressed on because I was so close to the end. I listened to the last hour at 1.5x just to get it done with. What a gross, boring, pointless book. It's not scary enough to be horror, not mysterious enough to be a mystery, and to say the characters are one-note would be generous.

It feels like a rejected concept for a novel that got yanked out of the trash just to be unloaded on Audible. And just to be clear, Cutter's Little Heaven is one of my favorite horror novels ever, he clearly has talent. But it's nowhere to be found here. The 2 stars are just because I've read worse, I like the author, and it has a decently interesting concept. But man, I hated it.

I liked this eventhough it was a bit heavy for me. Part of me did not expect to like it. It was terrifying but there were things that sort of broke the awful spell for me. Some of the dialouge seemed a bit silly and some of the choices Murtag would make seemed out of character. Deapite that, I will pick up another book from this author, I just need to go read something wholesome before I do.

Handmaid’s Tale meets Judge Dread. It starts out strong, and the world building is great. But shit hits the fan a bit too soon. I would have liked to have gotten to know the characters and world a little better before things start to take a turn. Could have been twice as king or the first book in a series. I guess wanting more is a compliment.

🎧 - Geez, Cutter can really make you uncomfortable. There are places that live similar to this now. Some countries in the Middle East are under Sharia law, North Korean citizens are “compelled” to rat out family members for crimes against the state. If you aren’t vigilant, this can happen anywhere. Every religion thinks they are the only correct one and the rest shouldn’t exist.

Not nearly as good as his other two works. It lacked the atmosphere that made The Troop and The Deep so engrossing. It was interesting in its own way, a take on the destructive uses of religion. All in all a so-so read.
