This book at time does feel like a book between 2 other books but the characters are good and it is a fun story over all. It is slow and a tad boring at moments tho

It’s a set up for the third book. Lirael feels like it should be combined with Abhorsen and is only split up to keep the length manageable. The pacing is slower than Sabrina but I also think it’s slower than a moderately paced book. It’s not a snails pace, but it feels like the ending is part of the rising action instead of a climax.

I absolutely love Lirael, the Disreputable Dog, and Mogget. I like Sam, but I feel like the bulk of his development is waiting for the next book. It’s a bit frustrating to read him sometimes towards the third half of the book, but understandable.

Overall, enjoyable but you must read Abhorsen right after.

Super Librarian! I fell in love with the dangerous and mysterious library in Lirael and, quite frankly, I would have been happy if Lirael stayed there solving magical problems.
