DNF at 28%. I loved the premise at first glance... I was rooting really hard for this, but took over a month to trudge through 100 pages. I think something about it was just not for me. Laura is better than in the original book. Camilla was fairly one note... I just didn't find the pacing to work for me and was easily thrown off by dialogue and the constant POV switch each chapter.
I also think I am just not a fan of this author's penchant for uncomfortable relationship dynamics. Like, sure, academic rivals to lovers? But the teacher relationship? Not for me. Idk, it doesn't read as messy and interesting, it just reads as creepy. I also, admittedly, disliked how this author wrote the polyamorous relationship in the other vampire book. Anytime poly lovers call each other sister or, like, describe having a "mostly mother-son" relationship before jumping into bed I just... Get irritated.
Ultimately, I don't think I was interested enough to get to any of the meat of the story, because the characters struck me as off putting and annoying, and the pacing was slow. I love vampires, lesbians, dark fantasy, and BDSM vibes are cool... But I couldn't really get to any of that because I was just disinterested after 100 pages.

Honestly, I didn't love it but I also didn't hate it. I think the plot twist from the beginning was good but then it felt all over the place.
Dark academia with moody, sapphic vibes. What's not to love?

I think this simply wasn't my kind of read. This is heavy on the romance and sensual tension and light on the plot. Nothing wrong with that, just not what I expected. I did appreciate the appearance of a familiar character though and was hoping for others after.
