This story is hard to describe, in that it has a lot of emotional depth. Tallora is kidnapped from the ocean after saving a princess named Dauriel. Tallora is made a slave to the mighty Solviran empire, and she ends up needing to work with Dauriel to survive.

Within the story, a tale of forgiveness and redemption is told, and readers get to learn more about both Tallora and Dauriel. Dauriel is especially a morally grey character that I ended up loving! The worldbuilding is fantastic, and readers won't want to miss out on reading the other two books! For readers of the Fallen Gods series, a certain iconic half-demon general appears.
