by far the best book out of the trilogy! (the hobbit is my fave tho)

the ending was bittersweet (i’ve forgotten about the movie ending at that point) but i kinda get it… nevertheless loved loved loved the character arc of the four hobbits 🫶🏻🫶🏻 they’re going to be deeply missed

Joshua read all three books to me over the course of the last few months. I'm sad to have this tradition come to an end. Reading the end of this book together was really special though, and I found that the last few sections were full to the brim of thoughtful and understated observations that I really enjoyed discussing and unpacking. One of the things I have enjoyed a lot about Tolkien's writing is how little he shares in certain key places. It creates a sense of so much depth and allows the reader to come to their own understanding of the inner life of the characters, or features of the mythology. Thank you Joshua for reading all of this to me so kindly, and for always doing the voices.
