A truly repugnant and immoral novel in the most engaging way possible. Tampa tells the story of Celeste Price, a 26-year-old school teacher, living in a boring marriage, who is secretly a pedophile with a sexual attraction to underage boys. She is the worst kind of protagonist possible; a disgusting, rotten and reprehensible person with no regard for anyone's wellbeing but her own. The narrative is told entirely from her POV, yet despite this, the story is oddly gripping.

The author doesn't shy away from the ramifications regarding pedophilia and statutory rape. Celeste's attraction to underage boys is something that is established right away and it is made abundantly clear that the reader should not feel any sympathy for this character. Her pursuit and grooming of the boys is shown in graphic, unflinching detail to the point where it can become too much to handle at points.

It becomes more and more clear as the story progresses that there are consequences to this behaviour that irreversibly damage people's lives and despite this, Celeste ultimately goes through no change as a person and expresses little to no remorse for her actions. Tampa overall, is a fascinating novel to read mainly due to the perspective and worldview of its main character and the extreme lengths she'll go to in order to prey on her students. It shows that this behaviour must never be defended no matter what, whether it be a woman doing it to a boy, or whether it is the main character of the story.

this is genuinely vomit inducing and not even in a good way. it's just horrible for the sake of it

2.5? 3? ns

I read this a couple months ago and I'm still thinking about it.

Sometimes something innocent will suddenly remind me of this book and it feels like a goose walked over my grave. Really disturbing and really captivating story told from a predator's point of view. I pressed this book onto other people as soon as I finished it so I could have someone to process with. Five stars for freaking me out so badly!

I don’t even know what to say… did it put me in the character’s head so totally that I was disturbed for the ENTIRE book!? Yes, most definitely. Did it make me angry? Yep. Was it entertaining? I mean, as much as that subject matter would allow,.. I seriously don’t know even know…
