Wow. The audio of this book, read by the author herself, is extraordinary! It is very clear why Viola Davis won the Grammy for her audiobook performance. Her words mixed with her voice and storytelling ability culminates in a work of perfection.
Ms. Davis begins sharing her life as a small girl and describes how she faced racism from an early age. She outlines her childhood, early adult years into her adult years with care, delicacy, bravery, pride, and courage. She was raw and forgiving. It was a privilege to hear about the life and challenges one of my favorite artists, one of my favorite women, lived. Do yourself a favor and listen to this memoir immediately.

Her story was inspiring--and horrible and cruel. She endured so much pain! Wish she didn't keep repeating theme and thoughts -- kept hitting "fast-forward"

I just finished this and am practically speechless. If I could give this 10 stars I would. This is the most honest, unflinching piece of media I think I’ve ever experienced. Davis faces her story head on and appears to leave nothing out. I also cannot recommend the audiobook highly enough because Davis narrates and it is astoundingly incredible.
