A book where there isn't any miscommunication between the main leads Lina and Max! I enjoyed this for the writing and the trust bond they eventually developed, plot itself takes a back seat to the character development the leads underwent, example beingLina and Max accidentally joining a couples therapy session to earn a place for one night after Lina's car broke down, but the way they took the chance to open up to each other about more sensitive cultural and gender issues to gain better understanding, and the sex after that also capitalized on how each wishes to be loved. . I loved the way they talked things out, including how Lina would let go of Max to respect his wishes not the be second to his brother in love matters .
There is a lot of talk on Lina's Brazilian culture, and I enjoyed learning about samba and food!

I felt like the book was packaged as enemies to lovers but the “enemy” relationship wasn’t fully developed or believable. The ending also felt weirdly rushed. Like the editor needed it a week early so the author sent it off missing a few chapters or cut it short or something.

The relatability to Lina and her very much dismissive/avoidant attachment style really hit so close to home it instantly made this book a comfort book for me. Her character growth is also so exciting, because even though the love interest assists her in the growth process it is still very much internally driven and focused. Max is so endearing. The reality of being a woman of color, and needing a safe space to feel and express your full range of emotions hit so so close to home it made me emotional.
We are all deserving of a safe space to be sad, angry etc.

3.5 ⭐s. I read this one for Beautifully Bookish Bethany's Patreon book club, and I'm not mad at it! It doesn't rank up there with the best of the best romances, but it was moderately funny, and I truly identified with Lina's experiences with hiding her emotions and struggling to express them in a safe manner. Also loved the Brazilian culture rep. IMHO, not enough sexy times, and they were a little odd. But overall, a good time.
