This was cute! I loved the premise honestly, “””””enemies”””” (very, very loose, not even enemies fr) to lovers who also have to work together in a competition falling for each other with quite the interesting history. A reason why I say not even enemies fr is because at some point I was kinda confused how into each other they were because I was like am I tripping or…. So they folded way too quickly for this to even be considered an enemies to lovers story but I love them both, fuck the brother/ex-fiance, and I’m happy for them.

I own the ebook but have been finding it nice to listen to audiobooks lately, so I checked this one out of my library.
Brief Summary: Carolina Santos is a woman driven to succeed. As she makes connections and a bid for a big contract in the wedding planning game, she also has to confront the fact that she is not into romance. Yes, Carolina Santos is a wedding planner down on love. To be fair she did have her own failed wedding so the subject is a little touchy. However, as she tries to win her dream job, she has to face her negative feelings head-on as she is forced to work with the man who served as the best man at her almost wedding, Max Hartley.
Max is trying to distance himself from his broth as he tries to be a part of the winning team for the wedding planning contract at a big hotel chain. Things become complicated however when he has to work with a woman who justifiably is not his biggest fan, Carolina Santos. However, as they navigate the awkwardness and take home the prize, Max begins to wonder if there is something more to Carolina than meets the eye. What he discovers just might change their lives and their relationship forever.
Thoughts: I truly need to figure out a better way to read books when I purchase them because I am so mad I didn't read this book sooner. Sosa is a fantastic, vivid writer. I not only loved Carolina as a character but truly felt what she felt throughout the book. That is how engrossing Sosa's writing is. That scene in the office toward the beginning of the book...I had to stop reading for a few hours because I felt dread, anxiety, and about a thousand other things that Carolina was likely feeling at that moment.
I also loved how Sosa focused on Carolina's community. Her mother and her friends were such great and entertaining side characters. I hope that they make appearances in other books that Sosa writes because I want to know everything about them.
Max was just as well-written as Carolina. I particularly liked how as they attempted to work together Max did his best to be respectful of Lina's boundaries, while also attempting to have a cooperative and successful work environment. He was cocky, but at no point did I dislike him, which is not something I could say about his brother.
Carolina and Max's chemistry is undeniable throughout the book. I was rooting for them at the start of their working relationship. I also really appreciate the mystery element that Sosa wove throughout the book about why Carolina and Max initially hate each other and the ending left my jaw on the floor.
Highly recommend!

A light rom-com with a lot of heart. I loved the way that Lina's immigrant family and Brazilian culture play such a huge role, and how her shitty ex-fiancé is only a barrier to her relationship with Max in an abstract way - the reality of the awkward family dynamics and Max's anxiety around being compared to his brother are the real enemy.

Very cute, I'm glad I listened to this one because the female narrator did a fabulous job(as far as I know) with the Brazilian words that my brain would have stumbled over and slaughtered.
Usual issues with the male narrator unintentionally making the FMC sound a silly ditzy, but he did a good job otherwise.
Also bonus points for relatively low angst at the last quarter, could have been so much worse.

This was fine. Not bad, not great, but fine. Perfectly fun and reasonable to read on a plane, which is what I did! The third act breakup happened very late in the game - so late that I was thinking/hoping maybe it wouldn't actually have one. And then it just kind of ended and things were resolved extremely fast. Some of the grand declarations were reeeeeaaaalllly too much.
