So messed up. The underlying story was good but 90% of the book is extremely uncomfortable.

This book was very interesting. It’s both direct and creative. It felt like something I needed to process, and make sense of. The trigger warnings are real so please respect that. It made interesting narrative choices that feel like a self hate spiral I have personally gone through. Like I found a lot of this writing to be unique and relatable and a bit traumatizing. This book does queer horror so well but it’s not a book I think I could recommend to someone. Everything that made it so good to me was ultimately very painful. Much like House of Leaves I think this is the kind of book that finds you.

Absolutely brilliant. Deeply disturbing. Compelling. Genuinely frightening. Despite the heaviness of the content, I could not put this book down and now that I'm done I can't stop thinking about it.

this is a difficult, upsetting, violent book. i cannot recommend it in good conscience. i loved it completely and will read it again.

A fantastic book. A really interesting philosophical dive into fascism through the medium of horror. The only reason it’s 4.5 stars and not 5 is because I wish it had been longer! I wanted to spend more time with the characters and inside the house, and felt the book could have been double the length. But that’s really a testament to how excellent this is!
