Thank you Tor for providing me with this ARC!

Check the god damn trigger warnings. The author puts them at the beginning but please do read them. This story was NOT your typical haunted house story. It focuses on what it means to be trans, a terf, and SA’d,

This story haunted me. And still does. An excellent debut novel.

Just not at all for me. Felt incredibly over contrived and I’ve promised myself I won’t suffer through books on principle alone

TELL ME I'M WORTHLESS told me I'm a piece of shit, and -- not to get too personal -- I liked it.

Alison Rumfitt's debut novel is relentlessly disturbing, like if the kids from the 2006 kids film Monster House grew up to be contemptible queer assholes. It sounds like the opening to a bad joke: a trans woman and a TERF walk into a sentient haunted house who wants to chew them up and spit them out but, instead of a punchline, you get drop-kicked in the face. But TELL ME I'M WORTHLESS is anything but a bad joke -- it's a disquietingly loud novel about the darkness of being chronically online and terminally alive during fascism and facing trauma head-on. Hold onto your guts.

Hostile paragraph length.  Clauses stack on clauses in unending sentences.

The first half the book you spend thinking this is very unsubtle, this is really beating me with some Buzz words. This is like being in a pretentious creative writing seminar or an imperious tumblr post you think.

And then it fucking turns when they go on the house. It turns, it turns, it turns. And some of the most uncomfortable, horrifying, glass eating passages ensue so good work I guess
