There is a lot to say about a book that all around, doesn’t move fast enough. Even if this book is always categorized as the “worst” in the series, GRRM prose is as excellent as usual. i breezed through this behemoth of a book in a few months. Cersei descending into madness, Jaime becoming a better person, Brienne being tested time and time again for her chivalry and her desire to not conform to societal standards for women, Arya finally finding another father figure, then abandoning him for dead and taking a ship across the sea to live as no-one while her direwolf terrorizes Westeros, Sansa starting to play the game of thrones from the Eyrie, Lady Stonehart seeking vengeance for those she loved… There are many interesting things happening all around Planetos, though not as many as in other books, that much is plain to see. I loved the new POVs and the presence of women throughout the whole novel as compared to the other books. Oh, and I found myself deeply entranced in the Greyjoy story, even more so than Dorne’s and their alliances. What is dead may never die!
