This short story collection is about violence - the violence of parents against their children, the violence done in the name of love, the violence of society on those who defy expectations. It tells stories of those who desire and what they are willing to sacrifice in pursuit of their wants. It speaks of the choices we make and the choices that are made for us. Beautifully done.

I liked Godshot but this collection was rough. There are pretty disturbing scenes of abuse of disabled folks and children. If you stand back and squint at it, all these stories sort of look the same. I wanted there to be more dynamism in the tone or suggested outcome of each story.

I don't know, it's just not for me. Although the stories were riveting, they all seemed too abrupt and same-y. I just couldn't see the sense in it but maybe that's not the point. Anyways I like my short stories to be very full of meaning and poignant and this collection missed the mark for me. It's a shame though because many readers seemed to really like it.
