I really enjoyed this book, I thought the story and magic system was unique, unlike some that I’ve read. The King Arthur and his knight, along with all of the terms that came with this magic system was a little hard to follow initially but I caught on more and more as I read. I looked up definitions too, I wish there was an appendix or something. The action and final battle in the ending of this book was really good but it was some of the only really intense action in it. Although this book by itself was really good, it felt like the book was a major set up for stuff as the series progresses and I think it will just get better and better. The best part of the book to me was the handling grief and bigotry. I related a lot to Bree as far as mourning the loss of her mother and how she internalized a lot of it. As far as bigotry a lot of what she faces is racism, and in white so I can’t relate to that but there was a queer character in the story close to Bree that faced bigotry as well. Reading them talk about handling bigotry and how it affects them, it made me reflect and think about bigotry I’ve experienced as a queer man. I would’ve given this five stars but like I said some things were hard to follow and parts of it felt like a slow burn which I am not a huge fan of. AMAZING BOOK THOUGH DEF RECOMMEND!

If I could give this book more than 5 stars I definitely would! It had me on a ride for a whole 24 hours and I couldn’t get enough of it!
Why did it take me so long ? Great question because boy oh boy was it everything I was hoping for and then some. I love how real life race and prejudices come into play and build this beautiful story!

This was a breathtaking story with heartbreaking emotional depth and delves into grief so beautifully. I wish I could mesmer myself just so I could read it again for the first time.

The world building was a bit too chaotic at times, but everything else about this was perfection!!
