I think this might be one of my favorite Stephen King books!

This was the first book of his I’ve ever read. I was in third grade and I wanted to read something other than my little girl books about horses and Shakespeare. (I know I was weird.)

Before my reread, I forgot so much about this book. My favorite part, I did not even remember until I got there.
I love that I could read from the dog’s pov kind of. That was a genius touch. I’m not ashamed to say that I cried the first time I read it when I was 8 and I cried now almost 20 years later.

There’s so much going on in this book with so many characters and somehow it all connects at the end. There’s a kind of bizzare, paranormal aspect as well. It gives the story a creepy vibe especially after we realize what’s going on.

Writing about kids is what SK is amazing at so it is not a suprise that this book has 2 of them. Well, 2 important kids at least.

What I also appreciated was the fact that King was not afraid to show us how summer heat can make us be the craziest, meanest versions of ourselves. I HATE summer and the heat.

I can’t really say more without spoilers and I don’t want that right now so I guess my last words will be READ THIS BOOK IMMEDIATELY!!!
