It’s hard for me to rate this book because I have mixed feelings. The beginning of the book was fascinating: The set up of the world, the systems in place, the clones and how they were raised. I was immediately interested. However, as soon as I got to the middle of the book, I became completely uninterested. I no longer cared and was bored reading it. At one point I considered DNFing it, but I loved the beginning and it’s a classic, so I wanted to keep going. Luckily I did because I actually really enjoyed the ending. I loved the final debate among some of the characters, challenging the main messages that have been throughout. I loved the themes and ideas that this book focused on. With that, I was fairly pleased with the ending. It came fast, but it felt perfect for the book. Overall, the middle of the book just brought my rating down; the purpose that portion just wasn’t that shocking or needed to me. I feel that the character, Bernard, could have been explored or shown in a different, shorter, less boring way. Still recommend for the themes and messages throughout, very important.

It's intense and dark and thought-provoking and tragic and sometimes closer to reality than I would have liked. And also quite good.
One of those books that is not the most fun to read but still valuable to have read. It certainly makes you think about what life is actually about. And in a weird way it makes you see value in the struggles of real life. Because without struggle all the good is worthless.
"But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin."
