The first, and I hope the only, book that made me feel physically ill.
I don't like Frank. I hate Cleo. And I absolutely despise that fucker Anders. And here's a special space for Eleanore - I'm not sure if I like her or if she's an unlikeable cunt.

2.5 rounded up.
Something about this kind of book is intoxicating to me but I think it’s almost like hate watching a show you really don’t like to complain about it?
✅ This book challenges your perception of the characters as it goes along, you are meant to dislike almost all of them, but then there are moments where you empathise or you start to understand their approach. It’s very clever writing- if you like Sally Rooney I imagine you love this but that brings me on to why I didn’t…
❌ Respectfully, there’s no plot to this book. After Cleo and Frank meet (the chapters I did enjoy!) nothing happens except time passing. You see snippets of the side characters lives but nothing is developed. Quentin’s character is so interesting to begin with but nothing is explored and he hits cliche after cliche. Zoe’s foray into being a sugar baby was so short lived. Even Eleanor’s part to play was so minor.
❌ Cleo hits every trope of painful millennial artist it makes your eyes roll back into your head at times. Yawn.
❌ This reads like a memoir or a constant string of thought by whoever is narrating and sometimes this works but most of the time I found that jarring.

I enjoyed the beautifully damaged characters and would have liked more depth in the story.
Give me NYC and cool characters any day of the week and I’m satisfied! I recommend This to all the girlies
