This was fine. I only read it because I was sick with the flu and Libby had the audiobook available for immediate borrow. It definitely did not need to be this long. I was a bit shocked at the twists at the end

we all knew Jack was shady and not gonna change, but rip xaden for taking one for the team

and the world building got a bit more interesting but if the next book is more than 500 pages, I'm gonna give it a miss (from the library)

Things started off a bit slow with this book but the story was great!! I was often hooked and unable to put it down. I LOVE the characters, especially the dragons. Although, Violet and Xaden did stress me out a lot in this book. I also wish I could have seen more of the side characters. I feel as if the side characters didn't get as much time to shine as they did in the previous book. 

I'm looking forward to the next book in the series! Although I don't know how I'm going to survive the wait, it's so far away...

What was this book? I feel like I was hit by a high speed dragon after finishing it.

I love this world and I love these characters. All of them. Even the villains... they are perfect, cruel, merciless...

The only reason this read isn't 5 stars is because the book has a lot of unnecessary stuff. The beginning is slow (but it was the same with 'Fourth Wing') but then the story gains the right momentum. I feel this book is unnecessary long: if they just talked - they share a mental bond, GOD, just mentally talk or whatever - many of the problems would be solved; and I think that are a lot of little details that were left without explanation.

But I don't want to judge too much, maybe all the explanations are in the next book! Yes, because after this ending I expect perfection for the third book. Everything MUST be ok.

I put this on par with the first book. Definitely more heavy on the trigger warnings. There are some absolutely brutal scenes that make deaths from the first book seem tame. Don't take that warning in the beginning of the book lightly. That being said, this book plays on all the emotions and is just wonderfully written.
