The writing is certainly good, especially in the way the author spins a new tale out of very obvious bits of actual Chinese history and mythology. However, Rin being a very strong anti-heroine as she is, it's hard go connect with her or with anyone else in the book, and in the end there is no reader's satisfaction in redemption. So it's not a gratifying read.

the end of this book ruined the entire series for me sadly. I feel like the second and third book were a bit of a waste just to have that ending. Kitay didn't need to die like that ! What a frustrating ending.

Kuang’s writings so complex and the storyline so intricate. There are so many twists and turns I didn’t see coming and oh the ending. Whoa.
