Ion Barbu is my favorite poet and I have so many things I like about his poetic universe. His poetry has a certain geometrical perfection and inner music that can’t be overlooked.

Mostly, I like the poems written during his Parnassian period – the poetry of all things that have just been created. Everything is so mineral, so close to the Earth. You feel like you are actually participating to the Genesis.

”Sinteze transparente, de straluciri avide
Zbucnesc din somnorosul noian originar”

By far, my favorite poem still remains Uvedenrode, with its strange musicality and multitude of symbols. Uvedenrode is an “ars poetica” that revolves around the concept of knowledge through Eros, Reason and poetic Contemplation. At the same time, it plays around Plato’s theory of Ideas. The poetry/art is eternal, always living in this pure space of Ideas (“Sub timp/Sub mode/In Uvedenrode”).

Uvedenrode also contains one of my favorite alliterations ever – “O cal de val/Peste cavala/Cu varul deasupra-n spirala!”.
