Brianna Justice has always dreamed of being 5th grade class president. In fact, it's step one of her grand plan to become a business owner for her own cupcake empire. But when a new girl shows up at school, she finds she has more competition than she originally thought. A great middle grade book that is also sprinkled with child friendly baking recipes and facts about former US presidents!

Cute. Not earth-shattering, but cute.

I decided not to give this book a rating, since it’s a middle grade book and I’m not in the target audience. I did really enjoy it and am looking forward to adding it to my fifth grade classroom’s library. I loved that Brianna and her friends all had big plans and dreams and worked hard to achieve them. I think the themes of friendship and being true to yourself are really important for middle grade readers.

This is a cute upper elementary / middle grade novel about democracy and how influential people can be when it comes to elections. Brianna drinking coffee in Chapter 12 shouldn’t have been something a 10/11 year old should have been doing (unless the author forgot temporarily that Brianna wasn’t an adult?) but minus that, something I’m going to try to get for my classroom when I can.

Brianna is driven! Following in her idol's footsteps, she thinks that being class president will set her up for all her future plans. Then the race becomes for president of the grade, and a new girl, Jasmine, moves in. Is she really just wanting to get to know people, or is she evil, as Brianna suspects?
Brianna makes some seriously bad choices (e.g. asking Becks to spy on Jasmine, once she chooses Becks as her campaign PR head), and deciding to cheat on the trivia contest.

Includes lots about the hard work and planning to necessary to succeed in business, and recipes.

A lot of potential bullying and focus on income. She also drank a lot of coffee for a fifth grader. But I did like the political aspects.

Not a masterpiece of children's literature, but I think a solid intermediate level book. My student's have loved it.
