The women in this book were clearly written by a man who believes women are weak. It is so annoying and frustrating.
The author clearly bit off more than he could chew; he set up so many stories and characters, and then proceeded to forget these set ups throughout the entire body of the book. He then proceeded to try to wrap everything up in one, exposition filled, chapter at the end. I would not recommend anyone read this book, because the synopsis was the most exciting part.

A quick summer read, recommended by my Momma. I loved the Montana wilderness setting, and the surprising twist toward the end. Didn’t see it coming. Plus there was a fair amount of real world information about the way forest fires spread, and how to survive in the wilderness, so that was pretty cool too.

Fast-paced, easy read with entertaining twists and turns throughout - not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

A rollercoaster thriller set in the wilds of Montana, gripping from first to last with a couple of excellent didn't-see-that-coming twists. An Alex winner - written for adults but will have teen appeal. See my full review.

This was an enjoyable read. The standout for me was how much I ended up enjoying all the different character POVs. Multiple POVs isn't my favourite type of storytelling usually, but Koryta really made it work. The 14yo murder witness Jace, the survival instructor Ethan, Ethan's badass wife Allison, and the fire lookout keeper Hannah are the POV characters and I really enjoyed how their stories all blended together and told all of their experiences. Also bonus points for some good female characters with basically no infantilisation or misogyny but still being realistic about their limits. I liked the murderous brothers too, their way of talking to one another was so unique and fascinating to read, it really brought them to life and upped the creep factor.
I couldn't do this review without acknowledging the real hero of the story, Tango, the horse who is 't quite at the end of rehab from breaking his leg and still managed to
carry two people through the wilderness towards a fire, and then throw off one of the bad guys when they tried to ride away on him 👌
