Amazing every time I read this book.

I read the first book out of interest in what a friend read as a child. It was interesting, but I should have stopped at one... now I'm just reading YA war stories. Not bad, but not my thing either.

This was a great book. I'm disappointed I have come to this series so late. I am really liking it, but wish I had been put onto it a few years ago, when I was the same age as the characters. Then I would have thought it was 5 stars. Good fast story, plenty happening and some interesting kids.

This sequel to [book: Tomorrow, When the War Began] goes more heavily into the characters' relationships with each other, and although there are still plenty of "action" scenes it also has a lot of quiet time while the group is hiding out between missions. Even though it feels like the series could slip at any moment into a holding pattern of mission-hideout-mission-hideout, The Dead of Night manages to keep up a good pace and suck you into the adventures. What action happens gets more dramatic, and the characters get more philosophical about the situation they're in and what exactly it means to kill someone in hot blood vs. in cold blood as one by one they're forced into situations where it's kill or be killed and they find other people's blood on their hands.

Definitely worth reading if you read the first book in the series; if you haven't read it and you like YA at all, definitely check out [book: Tomorrow, When the War Began]. And as soon as you finish that one, move on to this one.

Once again the story is told by Ellie and continues where the first book left off. Or young hero's continue to live in hiding while trying to help in the only way they can with the war effort.
It's an easy read, short but fun and no filling to bore you.
I am thoroughly enjoying this series by Marsden and look forward to the next.
