After the death of the Serpent, there's a whole lot of leftover fear hanging around. Someone is stealing it, ripping it from the heads of dreaming children and killing them in the process. Daimon Hellstrom, literal son of Satan and ultra-exorcist, is determined to stop them. And his auguries lead him right to Loki.

It's not Loki, obviously. But Loki quickly turns the situation to his dubious advantage, or at least to serve his own plans. We're at volume three here, and things are beginning to pick up speed, even as Gillen lays the foundations for the denouement to come. Loki is more vulnerable in this volume, and it sets up his growing trust in and reliance on Leah, his friend and Hela's handmaiden.

This volume in particular demonstrates the effect of new supporting players, such as Leah and Thori, injecting life into company superhero comics. It also shows Loki's singular approach to being a hero, through intelligence and deal making, rather than Thor's purer approach. The culmination of this in the final volume Everything Burns is the narrative selling point of the series.

I love Kid Loki and this series again has delivered. He's seeking redemption by going about it in an underhanded, teenage matter and it is great fun to read. It doesn't shy away from the hints of his past, but it also deals with his struggles at fixing things and how Thor is an ever-present shadow that he misses and needs and wants back. I love this series because it humanizes Loki in so many different ways.

Leah is a great foil and Thori the hell pup made me laugh hysterically. Not to mention the clever fourth wall breaking of all the introductions. They are irreverent to the max and that adds to the flavour of this series.

The art was smooth and crisp and very well done and the colouring was breath-taking. The art is a great compliment to the prose.
