Entertaining. I needed to read about some heroes. The news these days displays some very ugly people in this country.

I did get weary of the details of Wyrick’s (miss Wonder Woman), clothing choices and make up. That part didn’t hold my interest.

There was an element of wholesomeness in the story as Charlie Dodge and assistant Jade Wyrick hunker down and solve a crime.

What was left in the air was why—in the beginning—the office building and block they worked in blew up. Was it people after Wyrick?

I’m guessing the tension between the two won’t change much given Wyrick’s back story. Too bad.

Another brilliant suspense by this author, she never disappoints me and her stories are always something I can't put down. I loved watching the pieces come together in this mystery. I really didn't see that coming. The characters are interesting is this series, both main characters had their side stories, one of them very intriguing. An amazing book, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I have been searching for a protagonist similar to Elizabeth/ Abigail in Nora Roberts’ [b:The Witness|12716613|The Witness|Nora Roberts|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1329921937l/12716613._SY75_.jpg|17851429] for five years. I think I found her in [b:The Missing Piece|42608657|The Missing Piece (The Jigsaw Files #1)|Sharon Sala|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1556842741l/42608657._SY75_.jpg|66258799]. Whereas I love standalone stories, I am very happy to see that this book belongs to a series.

Charlie Dodge was a former Army Ranger-turned-private investigator. He was married to his beloved wife, Annie, for over 20 years. Unfortunately, she had early-stage dementia. Ms. Sala kept her character true to this incurable mental disease. It was heart wrenching.

Wyrick was a fraction over six feet tall, bald and without breasts. Before Charlie knew her, she had survived stage-four breast cancer. Because he was ex-military, very little shocked him. She was brilliant with IT, had a pilot’s license and was better at defending herself than he was. No surprises here, all of this is found in the first chapter.

Charlie and Wyrick had a very unusual relationship and their dialogue won me over. Well, that, and the suspense.

”Damn it, Wyrick, did you hear me? Who’s the boss in this office?”, Charlie snapped.

Now she did look up, pinning him in place with that black, bottomless stare she perfected, and said nothing.

He stared back at her, willing himself not to be the first to look away, and focused instead on the tic beside her left eye.

“Fine,” he muttered, and started to walk off.

There is so much more to their association but you will have to read [b:The Missing Piece|42608657|The Missing Piece (The Jigsaw Files #1)|Sharon Sala|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1556842741l/42608657._SY75_.jpg|66258799] to discover it.

In addition, there was the dark and dubious company, Universal Theorem, trying to force its hand with Wyrick. The mystery itself had plenty of chicanery for Charlie and Wyrick to pursue. And the last chapter only enforced my need for Second Sight. There was no cliffhanger, just my wish to read more of this uncommon couple. Now.

Aug 31st Update After reading the first two chapters of [b:Second Sight|45308817|Second Sight (The Jigsaw Files Book 2)|Sharon Sala|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1571827362l/45308817._SY75_.jpg|70036163], I returned the book to our library. As much as I like Charlie and Wyrick, I am not comfortable with the subject of trafficking with children. I then read [b:Blind Faith|50863252|Blind Faith (The Jigsaw Files Book 3)|Sharon Sala|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1596043045l/50863252._SY75_.jpg|73267713] and had no problem picking right up with the PIs. Just be prepared to ‘suspend your disbelief’ with Wyrick’s super woman-like abilities.
