I am equal parts glad and frustrated that I read this book.

I wish there was more progression or attention given to Bug's relationship with his daughter. She felt like an afterthought in most mentions.

I do sympathize with Bug's internalized relationship with his father, and the resolution of that plot point is handled well enough. The ending falls a little bit flat for me though, and I recognize that as a young black woman I may not resonate with it the way an older black man might.

I appreciate it for what it is, and respect the drive (haha) put into the work by S.A. Cosby.

This book was a great read coming off spending a long time with massive fantasy books. The story is fast paced and addictive as Bug/Beauregard is presented with one job that can make his financial problems go away. As you'd expect, things don't go the way they were planned and a lot more happens than a simple robbery and pay day. The book does a great job establishing the setting of the story and allowing it to play a role in the narrative. It's very easy to feel like you're there watching it all go down. The car chases and heists felt original and were entertaining to read. The violence is extreme and in your face. The existential question at the heart of the story is deep enough to keep you thinking even after the book is done.

If S.A Cosby does anything, he is going to set his stories in Virginia & make you feel like you’re reading a movie.

This novel is gritty, raw and authentic. It pulls you in and quickly rushes you through the storyline like a dose of adrenaline.

S.A Cosby’s writing style for this genre is impeccable. It’s descriptive and blatant. He leaves nothing to the imagination. It is easy to get invested.

This isn’t my favorite book of his but it is an exceptional novel nonetheless. If you’re a fan of cars and/or heist movies/novels then this is a fast paced read for you.
I suggest doing an immersive read or audiobook. The voice actor for S.A Cosby’s novels is amazing.

I honestly can't say I liked this book, but then I couldn't put it down either. I was torn between hoping for a good ending for Bug but realizing that he had done a lot of wrong.
