Cosby is such a masterful writer of action scenes that I'm willing to read something this violent and gory when that's usually not my jam. It's so good! I will pick up whatever he writes.

The beginning seemed a bit longer than necessary but the rest of the book was high intensity which I liked
I'll use this book for my SRP bingo review since I have never written a review, and this is the first five star book I've read this year. It is Breaking Bad meets Ozark meets the Sopranos, with all of the drama and synchronicities (and character development as good as s1 of The Bear.) I love a book that has terrible, unlikeable characters that are so well written I'm still tearing through their chapters. There are both laugh out loud lines and brief, poetic scenes that had tears in my eyes. The protagonist "Bug" is the Marty Byrde/Walter White archetype, but a regular uneducated man running an autobody looking to provide for his family. I LOVED him despite all of his mistakes and (no spoilers) desire to lead a criminal life. The sense of place (southern virginia) was also strong and allowed for the weird blend of southern gothic and No Country For Old Men-ness that I adore so much in American novels. It is definitely one of my new favorite books, and I am now keeping an eye on this east coast author.
Just ok . Story is nice but so full of cliches that is becomes annoying after a while.

I'd be lying if I didn't say that this was thoroughly fun to read. Extremely brisk in pace and action which never quit. But where Blacktop Wasteland really exceeded expectation was in the crafting of amazing characters. I loved Beauregard Montage as a person and as a man; loved his family. I hated this mother, and hated most of the other neerdowell filth that Montage gets entangled with; most of all, the two brothers.
If one is in need to a solid quick read, this is it. There are no faults in the enjoyment of this brisk southern noir!!!
