This was my first S.A. Cosby read, and I wish I had checked him out sooner. This was a roller coaster of a story. A true page turner in every way. I was so rooting for the main character to succeed even when he made really bad choices. The suspense was the best I've read in a long time. I appreciated the characters' complexity and imperfections. The story itself was a critique on race relations, the impacts of poverty, life in rural America, and familial relations, but it did all of that without making any of it the focus of the book. The focus was clearly and purely a crime novel that blurred the edges of obligation, morality and love: a true noir. This would be an excellent movie. I highly recommend this book.

I DEVOURED this book in a single day. Mr. Crosby sir…I’ve finished your catalog (waiting on the new release) and I’m craving more and more. Blacktop Wasteland is everything I didn’t know I needed. It’s gritty, fast-paced, emotional, and absolutely unputdownable. The action hits hard, the characters are so real it hurts, and the story has this raw emotional weight that sticks with you.
Beauregard “Bug” Montage is the kind of character that gets under your skin in the best way. He’s flawed, brilliant, conflicted, and complex. I was rooting for him, yelling at him, and gripping the pages during every getaway scene. The man drives like a demon, but you feel every ounce of his pain and pressure too.
Cosby’s prose is sharp and cinematic. I could see every scene like a movie, and honestly? Somebody needs to make this into one, like yesterday. I’m officially a fan for life. S.A. Cosby is now on my “I’ll-read-anything-you-write” list.
Please write faster, sir. I’m already fiending for the next ride.

A gritty, raw, and action packed crime novel. Not my favorite from this author, but will keep you on the edge.
