I am really enjoying this book. The series was recommended to me via a Facebook group. I enjoy the characters and the storyline. I am looking forward to reading #2 and #3 in the series. I am learning a lot from the writing style and the pace of the story.
I’ve been looking for a series with a number of books to catch up with and this is it. The setting was so atmospheric, the characters flawed, the mystery unique. Can’t wait to continue.

3.5 stars. A solid little mystery and I enjoyed the archaeology bits enough to make up for some dated stereotypes.
Archaeologist Ruth Galloway is asked to help the police identify a body found near the saltmarsh where she lives in Norfolk. An expert in bones, she is excited by the find that dates from the Iron Age, but later gets involved in the search for 2 girls who have gone missing in the area. This book kept my attention, but I did anticipate a few plot elements. Interesting setting.
I started this and quickly abandoned its weird, distracting fatphobia (both internalized from the main character and from other characters)
As the first in a series, this was ok. The introduction of Ruth, and her field of study appear to be promising, especially as Ruth doesn’t fit the mood of the usual mystery characters. And archeology is not the usual crime solving technique. I will read the next one, to see if I am going to continuing with the series.
Me pareció forzado.

I've read a lot of good reviews about Elly Griffiths. People seem to love her books and so I decided to give her a whirl. The reviews were right and now I'm hooked too!
This is the first in her Dr Ruth Galloway series. It has all you need from a thriller and more and it's all set in Norfolk where I grew up so lots of it felt very familiar to me. It moves along at a good pace and we're really not sure who the murderer is - just like Ruth. She's conflicted too when she has to make decisions that impact on friends and which bring back her past.
I loved Ruth's character and her insecurities and I think I may have a slight crush going on for Nelson despite everything.
Anyway, the next two books have been ordered and so I am well on my way. I even gave this book away to a guest in my hotel. She was travelling back to the US on a long flight. Here have a good book I said, it will keep you entertained. I knew it would because it had done the same for me.
If you've not read any of Elly Griffiths, I'd definitely recommend.
