3.5 stars

I found this fine, but got annoyed by all the references to the main character’s weight, and how everyone else was glamorous and blonde.
medium-paced

This was a solid start to this series. I like Ruth and the archaeology was interesting. It did lag in places and the twists were a bit obvious.

2.5 stars. This was an easy read (which is all I want at the moment) but it was also problematic. Some of the comments about women were cringeworthy and the fatphobia was so bad in this novel. At times I just wanted to scream at the main characters. The mystery aspect wasn’t anything special and I guessed the murderer. (It’s always fun when you get it right, isn’t it?) I liked all the links to academia though. All in all, a pretty mixed bag. Should I continue with the series? Will everyone stop being so fatphobic?

Absolutely love both the Crossing Places and the Ruth Galloway series as a whole and is very much a book that I keep coming back to. The main mystery is really intriguing, the characters really come to life and the Norfolk and archeology around it really add to it. Cannot recommend more

This is the first Elly Griffiths book I have read. It won't be the last. Great story. Loved the archeology flavour through it. I couldn't put it down. Now on to the next one - the Janus Stone

An archeologist book! Set is small town England, on the coast. They find a body and bring in the expert bone lady - Ruth near her house. They are Iron Age not recent but she helps find missing girls. This is like the English version of Bones with a lot more archeology and love all the Norse, Iron Age, ect facts on top of it all. We also get the start of a romance?!?
