I read this in ebook format a few years ago, but when I heard that it was going to be published in an illustrated form, I was so excited to reread it.
This novella isn’t necessary to read alongside the daughter of smoke and bone trilogy, but boy is it wonderful!! It tells us the first date of Zuzana and Mik and it’s adorable like nothing else. Its a quick read and I’m happy to read anything Laini Taylor writes. The illustrations are also really lovely and it's such a gorgeous book.

Night of Cake and Poppets is an adorable little novella. It feels completely different from the main books in the series because it’s told from Zuzana’s POV. It’s fun and quirky, just like she is! If you’re a fan of the series, I highly recommend this addition! (4/5 Stars)

This was just supercute and romantic but in all its cheesyness original and creative. Really added some depth to Zusanna's and Mik's relationship. This short story made me believe in them more. This is a novella following the characters of Zuzanna and Mik's and the start of their romance. I freely admit to anyone that asks: after the first novel in the Daughter of Smoke and Bones trilogy, I lost interest. But, there were two characters that I always liked: Zuzana and Mik. So, I was happy to see a novella that showed us a bit more about them. It follows their innocent and sweet first date. Not a "groundbreaking" novella nor an extremely amazing one; just a sweet read about two characters I really enjoyed (and wished got more "screen time") from a series I'm really meh on.
