It starts off fine, the individual character perspectives are kept to individual chapters, but then around 25% of the book, perspectives change characters half way through scenes/paragraphs.

I also think this book would benefit from a content warning in the beginning regarding the fmc’s body dysmorphia, suicidal thoughts, sex work etc.

I wasn't initially sold on the writing style and plot setup BUT the last half of the book was amazing. So beautiful and I loved the character development.
I do still feel a little bit like there were too many parallel plot lines (not sure we needed
the Matias to start working the the demon, and I thought Marcus's story was extremely unresolved. For a book all about living with your mistakes, there was no redemption for him, he's just being shipped back to the war zone.
). But overall, I think they got blended together amazingly.
The descriptions of music made me so happy. I'm not trans, but for what it's worth I really did like how Katrina was portrayed. I'm so glad she found a family who sees how beautiful she is. I do think some of the scenes could be triggering for people who have experienced similar transphobia and violence, so please take care of yourselves when reading.

How do you even try to explain this story without sounding absolutely bonkers? It was so beautiful and weird. And about finding and building a family full of love from the most unexpected of places.

I really adored this. 😌❤️

I read this book for the trans rights read a thon. It was very interesting and I was interested in the trans protagonist. Her story was really good but it was mixed up in magical realism and fantasy and other people and aliens that I did not care about as much. I think it’s a better read for people who love fantasy.

Aliens, demons, music, found family - the strange mix is surprisingly wonderful. Alongside that are deeply emotional moments showing gender dysphoria and the queer experience. It'll stick with you!
