This has been my favorite adult romantasy read of the year so far.
🌶️ 4/5
✅ Morally Grey Shadow daddy
✅ Strong Warrior princess
✅ Royal fae political machinations
✅ Revenge plot
✅ Found family
✅ Off-the-charts chemistry
✅ Touch her and die
✅ Steamy open door from the jump
✅ Enemies-to-lovers with a side of forbidden romance & fake relationship
What kept this from being a five star read for me wasthe unplanned pregnancy. I was all for it when I thought they would actually terminate, and I did like that there was zero guilt around that decision, but then her changing her mind and keeping it just for the political gains felt contrived and predictable. I also personally just am childfree by choice and typically steer clear of breeder trope because I do not relate to it, but this was near the end and the conflicting emotions the FMC had around having the child are enough to keep me from DNFing and are why I will likely give the next book a chance.
Available in October but you can and 100% should preorder now! I was provided an ARC as a bookseller but all opinions are my own and not influenced by that. I liked this one so much I discounted it on my site without request from the author or publisher.

✨️Arc Read✨️
Love. I was so excited for this book so getting to read the arc was amazing.
Fully lived up to expectations.
Black fae, grilles, battles, hot sex, sass, badass warriors, throne sex, all the yes.
I don't want to give spoilers of any kind since it's not published until October but if you like enemies to lovers, you need this.
Finished the arc today and pre-ordered as well.

This is PERFECT for romantasy readers who're itching to a beautifully written stand alone book to sink their teeth into!
I enjoyed this book a LOT!!! I absolutely love Black culture was so ingrained in the cultures of the fae, especially the Apollyon court. The grills, natural hair, the locs, the braids...The names of the characters: Kadeesha, Malachi, Jakobi, Samira, Voshon, etc. Blackness was so undeniable in Their Vicious Oaths and that's so great to see especially in a high fantasy book. There's a great amount of spice, but it doesn't take away from the plot at all. I feel like the plot was very full fledged, and I didn't really have many questions by the end of the book. However, my 2 main questions are: What does a unified 7 Kingdom Empire look like? Will the cultures of the respective courts be preserved? I mean I assume so since Malachi and Kadeesha are fair in their decisions but still . Are the other Fae kingdoms still going to have Vassal royalty? I know the fae in this world hold religion and divine prophecy to a high standard but the whole "unfication" prophecy does throw me off a bit. I wonder if we'll get to see more of this world in a spinoff book or something like that.
Malachi & Kadessha are to DIEEEE for. Their banter had me swooning! I like that Kadeesha is not a compliant character in any means. Despite the fact that she's the bargaining chip in this political game between Malachi & Rishaud, she continued to stand her ground as a royal in Malachi's court. And Malachi isn't a 2 dimensional MMC. As much as he likes to play the egotistical, ruthless king, He does care a lot about his people and his inner circle. There's a plot twist towards the end of the book that had me put the book down for a day or two. It's a trope that I'm not a huge fan of, but I feel like Kadeesha and Malachi had great communication surrounding that matter at that point in the story and onward so I was untimately okay with it.
I once again would love to see some spinoff books for Malachi's Cadre, Leisha and Samira. I think that'll be very great.
I'm happy thatRishaud got what was coming to him. He's a weirdo who reveled in the fact that Kadeesha was promised to him as a BABY. He threw a blood thirsty tantrum because Kadeesha wasn't a virgin. I'm very satisfied that Kadeesha was the person to get the job done.
Thank you to Harper Voyager and Netgalley for giving me this ARC!

There's an unplanned pregnacy between the 2 MCs in this book, incase people aren't a fan of that trope

that's a hard 3.5
here's the thing: if you like enemies-to-lovers fae romantasy stuff, you'll love this and give it 5 stars and that'll be that. or maybe not! as someone with really high standards for what works in the enemies-to-lovers world and as someone who has never been able to find a fae romantasy book that i've loved (faebound was close), i might not be the best judge of what makes everyone go feral for this fantasy sub-genre. that said, i loved the blood trials, so i figured i would give this a chance so that i would be able to recommend it in earnest to people who ask what they should read after sjm.
there were some cool worldbuilding details in here that i really appreciated! and all of the typical fae terminology aside (if i see the word "male" again in this context it'll be too soon) there was a decent amount of emotional intimacy between the main characters that for sure helped the relationship read more believably than other books of this vibe that i've read. there's also some reproductive rights stuff in here what was well done and cool to see!
did think it was wild that this is a standalone (i went in without knowing) and while i think it works out in the end i do think there could've been another book in here somewhere. either way people who like fae stuff more than me will probably have a field day with this and that's the important thing.
