I enjoyed the first three quarters of this book but felt it then lost its way. It isn’t a refreshing plot line. Female lawyer falls in love with her male client (whilst lawyer husband has an affair with a younger woman). The relationship then went on to feel excessively rushed to fit into the constraints of one book but equally I couldn’t initially understand why, when the client was released, the book didn’t come to an end. There were a lot of unnecessary, unexciting chapters about this relationship until all of a sudden I realised they existed only to provide time for predictable ending to play out.

What I thought I was getting into was a whodunit. What I was actually getting into was two very awkward storylines I felt uncomfortable being a part of. Look I made it to the end purely because other reviews told me it was worth it. I'm not sure who was more gaslighted.. me or the main character by the men in her life.

Jay is a defence lawyer called to a client accused of murdering his wife in their own home under strange circumstances. Right from the start Jay has a nagging feeling something is not quite right and believes her client Edward to be innocent.

Whilst battling her own problems at home created by her husband Tom’s infidelity, she sets on a mission to discover what she can about the mysterious deceased wife Vanessa and the double life that she led.

Susan Lewis does it again and brings out the best and worst out of all her characters. The story is well thought through and lined with enough hints and twist to keep you guessing the ending of the story. This is another fabulous book.
