I've always loved poetry books, though growing up they were few and far between (not to mention hard to relate to as I hadn't really encountered the world of relationships) but this book, my goodness. I found myself dog-earring nearly every other page. There are so many great poems between words of encouragement and reflecting, just ugh!!! Definitely a must-read, and I'll be picking up his others in the near future.

I spent more time sighing with exasperation than I did enjoying this. Not for me.
inspiring
reflective
I don't think it was horrible. Just not made for someone like me. It's seemed very centered on breakup which isn't something I could relate to.
3.5 stars - probably rating this a little low because I didn’t relate strongly to the material (betrayal, broken relationships, etc). did have a couple of real gems in it though, I’m hoping to see some development of the subject matter in the other volumes.

Woman
Be strong
Be educated
Be opinionated
Be independent
You will only offend
The weak
You will only frighten
The close-minded
And you will never
Be appreciated
By those who don't
Deserve your presence
And that's completely fine
This was my first time reading anything by R.H Sin, but by page 27 I knew I would shortly own everything ever written by his hand.
The poems composed in Whiskey words and a Shovel tell an abstract tale of heartbreak and love; of the intimacies one shared with one another and the value of finding your worth within yourself-of not being dependent on someone who doesn't deserve to be a part of your life.
I don't know what I expected to find when I picked up this book but it definitely wasn't this wealth of feelings that came over me while reading.
